in order to tell a story to its audience. There are many different ways in
which stories are delivered, this is done to gain the attention of the audience.

news, it announces concerning on-going news story, a brief report especially an
official statement issued for immediate publication or broadcast. The bulletin
will contain audio, interviews, live cross interviews with other people and two
way interviews. A Bulletin duration can last up to 4 minutes long instead of
just having the news reader speaking all the way throughout to keep readers
interest it is good to include people’s opinions, wraps and voicers. For example;
The News of the World phone hacking scandal was a put as a news bulletin
because it was an on-going news story which gained an international press as it
was shocking that such a reliable news company could be found guilty of such
case.
Headlines
Headlines appears in every news story, this highlights the
most important stories that will spoke on in more details through the programme.
The headlines can be at least 5 news stories that concern the country or nation
most, this could stories based on events that have panned in the last 24hrs.
This is presented at the start of a new programme by the presenter giving a
brief synopsis on what will be feature throughout the programme/ news report.
For example BBC breakfast have their first headlines of the day in the morning
at 6 am, these stories vary from crime to light-hearted stories, using the 5W’s
(Who, What, Where, Why, When and How) giving the basic facts of each story,
grabbing the audience attention.
News
programme
A news programme has a range of different techniques to make
the programme entertaining to listen to but to still get the news across to the
public. The main focal point of a news programme is to report of current
affairs. News is typically reported in a series of individual stories that are
presented by one or more anchors. A news program can include live or recorded
interviews by field reporters, expert opinions, opinion poll results, and
occasional editorial content. An example will be World at one which is aired on
BBC Radio 4, the programme World one is long-running lunchtime news and current
affairs programme, which is currently broadcast at 1.00 pm to 1.45 pm from
Monday to Friday. The programme describes itself as "Britain's leading
political programme. The programme is presenter by Martha Kearney, and Mark Mardell.
Other presenter are also feature, varying of the different type of stories
spoken on. Another news programme is “The world tonight” also a current affairs
radio programme broadcast on BBC Radio 4, every weekday evening, which started
out as an extension of the 10pm news. It features news, analysis and comment on
domestic and world issues. Ritula Shah is currently the main presenter, usually
presenting the first three days of the week.
Copy only
Copy only involves a presenter reading a story without
including any audio tell the story is more depth, such as actuality not being
present. This mainly occurs when the story is not as important as other stories
which the audience needs more knowledge and concerns them more. The presenter
will give a brief overview of the story and move on to a more pressing issue. For
example the story could be based on a “dog stuck in a bin”, the story will not
come along with any interview or other audio clip to shed more light on it, the
presenter will briefly just mention this piece of information and close it off.
On the Other a Sport bulletin will crucial feature short audio clips of commentary
corning the game, as sport is a genre that people are eager to hear more on,
and audio clips reinforces the urge to get people to sit and listen attentively
to what the presenter is saying.
Voicers
Voicers is having a change of different reporters sharing
more fact of a specific subject. The main reporter gives some information/Facts
about a news story, than goes to another reporter with even more facts on the
story giving the audience a variety of facts to rely on. By using two different
voices it keeps the listeners interested and adds a break up from just the one
voice, it also allows more facts to be included.
Wrap
Wrap is when a pre-recorded report of a presenter voice at
the beginning and end of the programme with actuality played in between. A
script and an audio clip is a form of a radio wrap. The clip is fitted in the
middle of the script. The duration of a wrap can differ, depending on the
subject matter and the target audience aimed for. A hard news, complicated
story could make the wrap last for 50 minutes long, while a wrap on station
such as BBC radio one will be often more shorter as they want to keep their
target audience interested, which are young people.
Two ways
A two way is a form of an interview conducted by a presenter
based in a studio with a reporter outside at a location of where the story is
based on or are standing in front of a location associated with the event. This
often seen in broadcast news. This type of interview is often used when a
reporter on location isn't sending an edited report for the news. For example a
two way interview could be a reporter at witnessed the scene of the strike of
junior doctors protesting in front of NHS hospitals, the report would state
facts on what they have seen while there out there, rather than a report which
feature interviews and piece to cameras, always edited. Two ways are mostly raw
footages of the reporter having the interview with the presenter in the studio.
This can be beneficial for the audience as they can see for themselves/ witness
that this is real footages as the reporter is presently at the scene speaking
live. It adds actuality to the story.
Copy with
Audio
Copy with audio occurs when a news reader reads the story
with the facts and with a piece audio clips that links in with the story, the
audio could be an interview with a professional who knows the subject well
enough or a vox-pop with member of the public, gaining a variety of opinions of
the subject. By adding the audio clips allows the audience to receive more
information across and give more depth to the story.
Live Cross
Live cross often occurs in news reports, this is done when a
reporter from the studio crosses live with another reporter located at the
actually the scene where an event has taken place or is currently taking place.
This provides the audience with factual visual conformation that the story being
reported on is true. For example; there
was a news report on going case of Oscar Pistorious where he kept having to go
to court because of the murder case he was accused of, while the presenterin the BBC studio reports about news, she then crosses live other to another report live at the location where the court case was taking place giving the viewers some more insight
information of what is currently happening concerning the case.
Package
A radio package focuses on one single story,
pre-recorded reports featuring interviews and sound effects - will grab the
listener's attention and tell the story in an entertaining and creative way. This
way the listeners can gain a variety of opinions. The duration of a radio
package can vary; some can be in more depth than others, sorely depending on
the subject matter. A radio package contains different technical aspects which goal
is to grab the listeners, Sound effect is a crucial technique because unlike TV
radio packages are does not provide any visual images for the audience, this
allows the producer to tell there subject in a more define way, allowing the
audience to have a vivid imagine to what the presenter is talking about, for
example; if the subject was based on education than here will more likely
feature sound effects of classroom with students chatting and the teacher
teaching a lesson, chairs being pushed around and pencils coming to contact
with a paper.for example BBC1 Newsbeat tend to have a alot radio packages concern young people as this is there target audience. this could subjects such as education or any social media that is trending.
